FeedZCollector 1.2 released

Today version 1.2 is released. No new functionaliies. Only a bug fix.

In some feeds the 'title' element and the 'description' element are optional items of an element 'item'. A feed however must contain at least one of the two mentioned.
In case the 'title' element is missing FeedZcollector creates a 'title' itself. It is derived from the description by striping the HTML - <BR> and <image> tags excluded - and limiting it to max 200 characters.

It is not guaranteed that this feature will stay for ever.

N.B. This only occured when the optional title element is missing

Version 1.2
- d.d. 20061119
- Bug fixed in composing 'title' element, in case it is derived from 'description' element. fixed.

FeedZcollector 1.0!

On November 9th, 2006 FeedZcollector 1.0 was released by Zelders², founders of the feed directory & search service Feeds4All.com, the feed resources portal FeedFiles.com and the feed tagging service experiment FeedAlley.com.

FeedZcollector is an application that captures the content of web feeds (RSS, ATOM and RDF) at regular intervals. The content is stored in a Microsoft Access or MySQL database, ready for you to analyze, process or present.

FeedZcollector fits within the philosophy of 'Small Pieces Loosely Joined': it does not provide a User Interface for managing the feeds collection or for retreival or presentation of results. For these purposes other tooling is needed, like Microsoft Access or SQLYog or other suitable tools or services.

FeedZcollector is implemented as a Microsoft Windows Service. This means that as long as the operating system is running it does its job in the background once it is started, even if you log off. This makes it a perfect solution for a (web)server running services that depend on content of webfeeds.
